Welcome to our web pages dedicated to our favourite TV series of all time, Doctor Who. There are many, many pages / web sites dedicated to Doctor Who on the intranet, and this put me off creating our own for years, after all, pretty much everything has been covered already and been covered well. Then I thought "What the heck". For myself, in fandom terms it was the 1983 'Twenty Years of a Timelord' event at Longleat, Wiltshire, which finally pushed me to start taking an interest in that area of appreciation. Eventually joining the 'Doctor Who Appreciation Society' (referred to as DWAS by most, and Dee-Double-You-Eh-Ess by a few) I met up with a few fellow fans in the Oxford Local Group on Sunday 8th June 1986. Whilst the local group itself no longer exists we all still meet up in varying combinations at differing times, so these pages are named in respect of the group where we all met. I have mostly enjoyed the series since its return in 2005 though this site tends to reflect the collections and memories from way back when, giving insight into what it was like to be a fan during those first 26 years, and indicating our perennial fascination, interest and enthusiasm for this series that the BBC sometimes makes new episodes of. Further below: List of pages on this site (once you get past the book covers etc) Main contributors to this site: Andrew O'Day & James Spence With other contributions, and compiled by: |
We would all like to thank those who have been in contact regarding this site over the last six years, it's been encouraging to get such feedback. Photo top left: Photo of the main contributors to these pages taken during the 1990s: (L to R) Tim, Andrew, James. Based on a picture of The Three Doctors, this picture does actually contain two doctors. You wouldn't think to look at them though would you, huh, would you? For a list of missing Doctor Who episodes click here. Note: still includes Marco Polo in spite of all the wishful thinking. But where's episode 3 of The Web of Fear then eh? Come on, own up! :) |
01 November 2021: Some random and likely pointless thoughts on Season 13 are gathered here. First impressions: I liked Flux Chapter One. |
3rd January 2020: I've started adding very tiny thoughts about Season 12 here. Sacha Dhawan's appearance in the first story of the series, Spyfall, is very welcome (as was his appearance in the recent BBC series Dracula), was hoping he'd be the Dr one day, who knows, he might still be the Dr one day... :) |
27th October 2018: I've started adding very tiny thoughts about Season 11 here. |
3rd September 2017: I've started winding down the @OLGDoctorWho Twitter account as we don't post enough to it to justify keeping it. I've added our individual Twitter feeds here which you may not find of any interest at all although we aim to post information onto this page too. Occasionally. Maybe. In other news I've heard rumours that the next Doctor Who Annual is about to be released and I personally cannot wait to find it in a bargain bin come January. |
Posted 6th August 2017: Andrew visited the USA in June / July this year and this page, posted today (6th August), shows some of the photos taken during that time. |
Posted 6th August 2017: The latest addition to Andrew O'Day and Guests: Photos taken at The Attic event, 29th July 2017. |
2nd July 2017: I am now the prize-winning author of the Doctor Who Magazine Star Letter for Issue 514, on sale as of 29th June 2017. No seriously, stop laughing, it's a big thing, it's been years since I got my name in a publication and it tickled my sense of humour. As if there wasn't enough good reason to buy the magazine in the first place! I wasn't going to read the latest issue until after the season finale had aired on 1st July because I didn't want to accidentally see any spoilers but received an email from Peter Ware from the magazine the day I received it in the post letting me know my communication was Star Letter and had won a Dr Who book as a prize. So barely seconds later I was looking at the Letters page. The book arrived two days later but I've yet to read it as I've been constantly re-reading the Letters page of Doctor Who Magazine since last Thursday. As well as vacuuming the house. A bit. Tim Harris |
Pictures: cover to the must-have magazine of all-time and the resulting prize. Both are bound to run out so I'd grab at least 10 copies each if I were you. |

1st July 2017 18:25 OLG stalwart Andrew continues his quest to be photographed with every celebrity on the planet with a set of pictures taken from Utopia, a Doctor Who event that was held at Eynsham Hall, Oxfordshire between 9th & 11th June 2017. He even got some green-screen pictures taken with a couple of the more elusive actors. Dear BBC, release The Underwater Menace on DVD! When do we want it? NOW! (please!) Oh, you are! When? 26th October? Many thanks BBC! ------------------------ Update Sunday 1st November 2015: The DVD itself is good and bad: the episodes are wonderfully restored and sharp, and the extras that were created for the original release some time ago are fine and dandy. The reconstructions of episodes 1 and 4 however are lacklustre in comparison to these, having been constructed quickly and with the instructions not to use anything but the telepics in the order that they were taken. I'm assuming this was so that the long-time-delayed release could be rush-released as a response to growing fan irritation at the lack of release. It wouldn't have hurt BBC Worldwide to have kept fans in the loop as to what if anything had been planned for this release over the years and it's likely due to lack of news that fan irritation grew. Had Worldwide wanted to take their time and produce a top-knot release they could have said so but silence was golden. So the inference was that there was going to be no release. Hence the fan petition, hence the rush release. One doubts that Worldwide were going to release this at all, they'd spent money on animators who went bust, they seemed to have no other (cheap?) animators to go to but ruling that the reconstructions should be made with minimum effort to rush release this smacks of sour grapes on their behalf. The fans have had a go at us, we'll give them what they want but we're spending no more time on this. So it's good to finally get all the currently existing classic episodes on DVD and a disappointment that BBC Worldwide continued to treat this particular release and the fans in a highly dismissive way. |

Doctor Who - The Official Annual
2016 It's out, it's about and it's already down to £3.49 from £7.99 on Amazon UK. It is however the UK #1 Best Seller in Science Fiction Television. This is the latest officially licensed-from-the-BBC book based on the popular series Doctor Who by BBC Children's Books published by world-renowned Puffin Books (Penguin Random House UK). It sports a great front cover featuring, for the first time since the 2006 Annual*, a companion from the TV series: heck, even the Dr barely made it onto the front cover for the 2013 annual so this is quite a coup. Well done Clara. The Annual contains two errors that both entertain and tell you about the state of care given over to these books. Page 5: "Use this code when you see the UNIT symbol to work out our top-secret messages" says a caption ascribed to a picture of Peter capaldi as if he'd actually ssaid those words. What UNIT symbol? Where is it? Page 12: There's a Dalek with each part of its anatomy pointed to in non-necessary explanation as if we'd never seen the series so why did we get the book. The descriptions for the eyestalk and blinking-whilst-it-talks lights are reversed. It's like nobody even bothered (or cared?) to check whether this was right or not (chortle)! These are both hilarious (but inexcusable) highlights of an otherwise atrocious, slim publication that every year continues to befuddle in their inanity. I can't think that there's any part of the Dr Who audience that this book is aimed at: it tells you facts you already know from having watched the series, it contains errors as above and quite slovenly presents an array of poor dumbed-down features & stories. The series on television presents generally intelligent ideas & stories whilst this publication presents anything but. I'd hate to think this is aimed at children as I don't believe for one second that the children who watch the series are as unintelliegent as the people this book is aimed at. I get these books because I've always got these books from the 60s onwards and whilst earlier annuals clearly were aimed at a Dr-Who viewing public the latest few annuals have been short of any consideration for any intelligence amongst its readership whatever the age. Wait 'till it gets in the bargain bin of your local bookshop or local charity shop (I've seen loaaaads of copies of the last few annuals in charity shops!) Score out of 10: 1 * Oh go on then. Rose 2006, Tegan & Turlough 1984, Tegan & Nyssa 1983, Liz Shaw 1971 and Jamie McCrimmon 1969. |

Dalek in Portmeirion! Back in those wild, crazy days of the early 2000s, two of the three main contributors to this site used to go to Portmeirion every year. Among the delights in that most wonderful of Italianate villages is the shop that sells merchandise relating to that other brilliant series The Prisoner. In 2004 not only could you buy Prisoner-related stuff but also talking Daleks, so I grabbed one and proceeded to get a perspective photo taken using James Spence in the background. Daleks were never filmed in Portmeirion but at least there was a connection as The Masque of Mandragora had been partly filmed there. Neither of us bothered to buy a Space 1999 Eagle craft that was also on sale at the same time. For more Portmeirion pictures go to The Tim Harris Portmeirion Gallery. No? Ok. |
Police Box and Car What can I say? The Tardis has been around all my life and the 3rd Doctor's car Bessie was certainly a firm favourite when I was a nipper. We used to have a toy Police box when we were young and somewhere along the line it faded into time and space of it's own choosing because none of us can remember what happened to it. Years later I found three for sale on eBay and bid on them all in the hope of getting one of them. I got all three. Good old eBay. Bessie came with a limited edition of The Three Doctors DVD and I'd literally been waiting decades to get hold of a toy version. For more piccies go to the Police Box and Car page |
